Activity 2, Day 1:  In the ancient Olympic Games the winner of each event was called the Olympionic. Instead of a gold medal, the winner had a palm leaf placed in their hands and a crown placed on their head to show that they were the winner. Arguably one of the most famous Olympians was a man named ‘Milo of Kroton’ (see picture below). Use Google to research ‘Milo of Kroton’ and post three interesting facts about him on your blog.

• Milo entered the battle wearing his Olympic crowns and dressed like Herakles, in lion's skin and brandishing a club, and led his fellow citizens to victory.
• Milo’s occupation was being a Wrestler
• Milo of Kroton was a 6th century BC Greek Wrestler.
  

  

Activity 1 - Day 1: Once Upon A Time In Olympia

Activity 1 -  Day 1

Activity 1, Day 1: Let’s imagine that you were alive 2792 years ago and invited to compete in the first ever ancient Olympic Games. Which of these events: running, wrestling, boxing, pankration, horse racing and pentathlon would you compete in? Click on the name of the sport and it will take you to a site that tells you about the sport. On your blog tell us which sport you would choose and why you chose it.

Answer: If I were to compete in the Olympics in 2792, I would compete in Pentathlon because I would always like to try something new. Also because I like to throw things like in Javelin or Discus.

Matariki

Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. This is my artwork about Matariki.

Cathedral

Trip to the Cathedral/ Plan

Last Friday St. Pius X went to St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Once we arrived at the Cathedral, we waited outside for a while.  We then walked around to the other side of the entrance. We entered the door of Mercy and blessed ourselves. We then went to sit down.

After a while father Larry came out singing a song. He showed us where Pope sat and told us that he only sits on the chair next to Pope's chair. A man then came up to the aulter and read the a bible reading.

Then we had holy communion, we sang bread broken and Seauti played the guitar. We waited for the adults to came up and receive bread, then I went up followed by my row to get blessed.

After Mass St. Pius X had a photo with Father Larry. After the photo Father Larry told us the meanings about the stain glass windows. Then we walked back outside, blessed ourselves and sang a song which was merciful like the father.

We went to the hall and ate our lunch. After a while we walked back to the bus and off we went back to school.

My Experience About Today !

Today was the day that St. Pius X came to school as their favourite character. Caroline and I were Nerds in the book of Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds).

In assembly we showed our costumes and walked around the hall. I thought that Room 1 was the best costumed, they were pirates and princesses. They too walked around the hall and so did the other classes. Out of the teachers I thought that Mrs Middleton was the best because she was a character from Harry Potter.

After we showed our costumes Mr Cockley presented the honors bage. The student that was reviving the honors bage was Kalo and Faleaka.

After assembly we had morning tea and took photos.

Marae

Firstly St. Pius X got ready to walk to the Ruapotaka Marae. Once we got there we waited outside for the lady to welcome us. Ana - Lei was replying back to the lady in Maori.

Once we got into the Marae we went inside with our shoes off and sat down, the boys sat on the chairs and the girls sat on the floor. We sang our song that we practised and we sounded great.

We said Karakia and ate our morning tea. We were then split into two groups, the first group stayed in the hall and the second group went back into the Marae.

In the hall we made flower using flax. I think and some other people also think that mine was pretty. After we made our flower we went to the Marae. We took our shoes off before we entered the Marae, in the Marae we sang maori songs it was fun.

We said Karakia and ate our lunch. We soon went on the bus to tec.
